The film “Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na” has as expected teenage energy, college gang, love, comedy, romance, emotions and music that is lovely. The film is an entertainer with a predictable story line that starts with a low pace and the climax is unsurprising but a few moments and fun parts are impressive. The salient feature of the film is that nothing has been overdone and things have been made to look real and grounded.
The performance of the debuting star Imran looks patched up at the start that improves as the movie proceeds and Genelia looks sweet (she too need to improve on performance) and Prateek Babbar (son of Smitha Patil) as Genelia’s brother gets noticed in the small role.
The film depicts the changing social culture that has single parents, broken marriage relationships and kids suffering unprotected childhoods that make the children responsible and even irresponsible in young age. The so called “cool parents” trying to be with their kids and parents who do not want understand their kids’ problems.
The title “Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na” is basic story of the film. The film has two college going youngsters Jai and Adidti and both don’t know that they are in love and they are made to know it by circumstances. Both are completely different from other, Aditi is rich and angry and Jai is least furious rajput and belongs to a middle class family. They both want perfect life partners for themselves but on meeting people of their dream they realize that they are in love with each other.
The film has a college gang of vie, Jai, Aditi, Jignesh Patel, Sandhya, Shaleen and Rotlu , where teenagers share their emotions and have fun together. The films show the cute relationship of mother Savitri (played by Ratna Pathak Shah) and son Jai and a talking photograph of Jai’s father and comedy scenes like the sequence of brothers Bhaloo and Baghera.
The film is produced by Aamir Khan Productions and directed by Abbas Tyrewala who turns director from this film. The presentation of Imran is impressive and costumes of Imran (by Fashion designer Ashley Rebello) make him look cool (look like his uncle Aamir Khan) and he matches the role. Even the costumes of Genelia are notable.
The music of the film is luminous and energetic, by A.R. Rahman. Imran can not be compared to Aamir, he needs to improve but the movie is about a gang of youngsters and complete focus of the film is not on Imran that saves him.
The film will has its drawbacks that may not help it to be a blockbuster but it will definitely call college goers to multiplexes.
