As the movie warns, 500 Days of Summer is not a love story. However it is the story of Tom's (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) romantic journey with Summer (Zooey Deschanel). Tom, a hopeless romantic, thinks he has found the girl for him, but Summer has other plans.The romantic comedy is unlike most fairytale stories. It was refreshing to see an independent woman rather than the typical damsel in distress. Through flashbacks and humor, 500 Days of Summer keeps you wondering what will happen on the last day. There were several fantasy sequences throughout the film which added to its unique humor.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel had great chemistry and really took on the role of their characters. The supporting roles played by Geoffrey Arend and Matthew Gray Gubler helped you better understand the mechanics of the male mind, while allowing you to get to know more about the character of Tom.
The ending might not be what you expect, but it will not leave you dissapointed.
